I said last time that I’d go a little more into why home Microderm aka microdermabrasion kits are good for acne scarring. These types of skincare kits are probably one of the best things you can do to smooth out the bumps and pitted scars left behind by serious acne wounds of the past.
What exactly is microdermabrasion?
The aesthetic definition or dermatologist’s office definition of microdermabrasion is as follows. Keep in mind, spas can also perform professional microdermabrasion, but their specialists must always be certified to use the special machines. The cost is about $100 per session and you need at least 6 sessions a year to keep up results, so as you can see, this can get expensive. The home kits (see our scarring page for suggestions) offer an affordable and effective alternative to a spa or dermatologist microdermabrasion.
Definition of microdermabrasion:
A facial mini-peeling or mini-sanding technique is used to remove the top layers of skin using either chemicals or abrasive agents such as diamond dust. This is performed by an aesthetician to lessen the appearance of facial wrinkles and improve the aging appearance of the skin, and also secondarily to help remove scarring from skin conditions such as acne vulgaris. The results remain for three to six weeks before it needs to be repeated.
